After admiring/researching sisterlocks for 2 months, I decided it was the right choice for me. After 3 years of being a loose natural, I was ready to embark on a new journey. Check me out I received my second retighten. From my new consultant Jasmin Johnson. Very talented young lady. She is only 21 and a certified sisterlocks consultant, salon owner, and certified licensed cosmetologist. You go girl. Very friendly young lady and very speedy. This time she finished me up in 3hours. Not bad not bad. She also created a nice up do as well. My hair is growing on 12/23/13 I will celebrate 23 months with my sisterlocks.I am getting closer to my 2 year mark. Ms.Jasmine told me that my hair is locked too. I didn't think they were so that good to hear. If she tells me they are I am rolling with it lol. Anyways check out the pictures below! Yesterday was my last day at my practicum placement for the end of the semester. Thank goodness. I enjoyed my placement but I am tired and i am so ready to rest for one month before I start back up and complete my last and final semester in my graduate school career.
I found a new consultant that is just as great as Ms.Tanisha. her name is Jasmine Johnson. She retighten my sisterlocks in 3.5 hours. I told ppl that Ms.Tanisha is not the only that can do it I think it may have been less than that but I'm a chatterbox. Lol. I did not do a style this time but next time. She has been a licensed cosmologist for the last 8 or 9 years and a certified sisterlocks consultant for several years. Very friendly, professional, nice salon, great conversation and smart young lady. Now here is the kicker..I wanna say she is like 23 years old. She staryed doing hair at age 14. She received her cosmology licensed @ 16 and by 17 or 18 years old she was a certified Sisterlocks consultant. Very impressive. She is a Very talented young woman. Def check her out. My linesister/tail got married and I was so happy and excited to be able to share that special day with her. She was a beautiful bride and looked absolutely amazing. Here are a few pictures of her and her husband, son,, my linesisters, and one of my ADPs. AND of course, my Sisterlocks.... sn ppl kept giving me tons of compliments on my sisterlocks hairstyle. All I did was give myself a massive part.Also people noticed the weight lost and were complimenting me on that as well! I don't know about you but its always a great feeling to get a compliment. Lol. Good afternoon everyone! This is somewhat of a rant. I forgot to post this. It appears that I have been having the hardest time finding a new/right consultant and or trainee for me. Last month I had a horrible experience with a trainee and this month I had another one. I just want to get my hair retighten guys.
So I am on the search for a licensed cosmetologist and sisterlocks trainee or consultant. So far I have found at least 5 within 1hour of me. But before I found them, I went to someone in my area and on the website to retighten my hair. And she looked at my hair and asked how long had I had my SL and I told her 2 years. She begins to tell me that my hair should have loced a long time ago and she can seal the ends and the ends should have been sealed on my hair. I politely told her. "One thing about me is that I love my hair and I am not concern with when or even if my hair locs. I like my ends as they are and I like the floppy fro look of my hair and I like my current texture of my hair.Your the first and only person that has ever told me that something was wrong with my hair and that I needed it fix"
Now the lady was nice and it was nice atmosphere or what not. And she really did a good job on retighten my hair and even wrote a posr about her. But I am not going to knock her for that I will def give credit when its due. But what she said didnt sit well with me andbhad been I n my mind all thus week and I dicussed it with both of my old consultants and they were offended and said there was nothing wrong with my sisterlocks.
Needless to say I won't be back to her and it took her 5 hours to retighten my hair. I'm sorry that's too long for me. Esp. When your a certified consultant and have been doing Sisterlocks since 03. Now I will fess up and say that it had been a little over 5 weeks and I normally go in every 4 weeks but that was ths earliest that she could get me in. So that could have played a factor on the time. I may never know. My previous consultant got me out in under 4 and tanisha brown whobstarted my locs got got me out in under 3.
Not to sound rude or cocky but some people really rattle my feathers. I felt like she was milking me and wanted me to feel like my hair was oh so terrible. I go every 4 weeks faithfully and the creator of sisterlocks has even seen my hair and said she loves them and i am featured on the offical SL website. What your not going to do is tell me my hair is messed up and my first consultant who started my locs should have done my hair a certain way and by coming to her shes going to get my hair in shape. Mine you I went to a few consultantion with some other trainees and consultant and they all said who ever started and maintained my SL did a great job. LADY GOOD DAY AND GOOD BYE...
And this is why I ask people to shout out their consultant and or trainee so ppl can and will know who to and not to go to...
My rant is over. Keep me in your prayers. Thats why I like going to licensed cosmetologist my rant is over.
Hey guys sorry for the lack of updates in the last few months. However I am still in search for the perfect consultant for me. I did have someone retighten my hair this past week. She did a great job but I just was not in love with her if that makes sense. I would totally recommend her however to anyone so I don't want you guys to think I don't like her. Her name is LaShan Briggs and she is located in Williamsburg, Va. Below are pictures of my hair before the reti and after. Hello everyone. It has been a while. Below I have posted a video of my hair update along with some pictures of my hair. I will celebrate my 19th month sisterlocks anniversary on august 23, 2013... I am still going in every 4 weeks. However because of my consultant schedule these past 2 months I have gone in at the 5th week. Which also brings me to another comment. My consultant told me that she does not want to do sisterlocks anymore. She wanted to just work at her job. (Which why I like going to ONLY Cosmetologist, that is there job and this would have not happened..) That is a bummer because I am a hair snob. I really don't like people or just anyone doing my hair. So I kindof gave her a side eye when she told me. It started off as I don't want to do sisterlocks anymore. So i asked her well are you just going to keep your current clients. And she goes yeah I will keep my current clients but I am not adding anymore or installing anymore new clients, and then later she says eventually in a few months I will begin to refer my current clients out. To then, by the end of the session she goes here is this woman's number, yada yada yada. But if she cannot fit you in then I will do your hair one more time, I am not just going to leave you high and dry. what?!? Actually you did. Ugh.... So I was little pissed about that.
For me its hard to find people who can do thick hair at a nice speed. Now granted, she was not as fast as Tanisha, and she did not style, and not as cheap, but she did charged me a set price. And my old hairstylist charged me the same price Tanisha did with the styles so I was never upset.Now I am on a search, and I am trying to find someone who is fast and can give me a set price...
Fast forward to a week a later, I finally met up with the woman that she referred me to to at the womans salon. I talked to her on the phone and she was telling me how much she charges her clients. And I had her a side eye, and everyone knows that look. its the look give a person when they said something I don't like. I let her know how I am a loyal customer, I BOOK all my appointments 6 months in advance. And I NEVER NEVER cancel and could she do a set price for me. I also told her that I wanted her to see my hair, because I have thick hair and she can tell me if she wants to work with me or not. I thought she was a cosmetologist, because that what my old consultant told me, but she is not. But she owns her own salon. I believe she has her braider license. You should have seen the look on my face bc I was going on and on about how I love cosmetologist and how fast my first consultant was. She got me in and out and she styled... yada yada yada. lol.But she told me she has been doing traditional and micro locks for years and went to the class in May has already installed 4 people. She also informed me that she had been doing sisterlocks for years, but not the true sisterlocks way because it was not with the tool. We worked out an agreement she would give me a set price and my session would include a wash and a style. Winning.
I go in on September 1, 2013 for my first time with this new consultant. After she does my hair, I will take a picture and release her name. I pray that she is speedy and I also pray that she is really creative with the styles. The good thing is her salon is located down the street from my hairstylist. Which I will still be going to because My stylist is cheaper than her. I am talking about $15 for a updo or curls. Special sjoutpout to all the talented and lovely ladies at Black Butterflies! But I always pay her 25. I am still trying to convince her to go the class because she is fast and already does locs. If she goes to class, she will have me forever!
Anyway enough talking, now its time to view. These pictures and video was taken and done on my last retightrn session with my now old consultant on August 4, 2013.
I am known for my updos and styles. However, I really have not had my hair styled a lot. I have pretty much had my hair in an ponytail. That looks more like a puff. My hair is growing, but it shrinks a lot. Recentmy I discovered holes in the middle of my locs. My consultant was able to fix it. I am bot sure how she dud it however. She also told me that she uses pattern 3 on my head, but some sections she uses pattern 4. She said she loves the way pattern 3 makes my hair look. Which is bouncy and free. Hopefully since I took my final in a summer school class tonight. I can a cute hairstyle in a few weeks.
I celebrated 17 months on 6/23/13. On 6/22/13 was loc appreciation day.I created a 15 second film on keek. But I still love my sisterlicks. I love going on this blog and seeing the progression of my sisterlocks and the endless options that come with them. I love that when I hate the way my hair looks, I get a lot of compliments. I love how my sisterlocks literally blows in the wind and I love my thick hair texture.
Sn: Oh I moved AGAIN. I also am getting a puppy. I get him next week. I know this is a hair blog, however I will post a picture of me and my new pup and all extra picture will go on my blog about everyday life.
