Natural hair meetup

Hey everyone... so I went to a natural hair meetup for the first time. And guess what the topic was...you guessed it Locs! The shop was so nice. I loved the chairs. The owner and other stylists do hair, manicures, pedicures, and waxes. Inside the shop were books about African Americans hair and her clients could read those while getting their hair styled. I should have taken pictures but I did not want to look like a tourist. She had a massage chair that massage your back while you were getting your hair washed. Talk about an experience.Lol. ( The shop it is called Twist... Also their website is twistnatural.com)The owner of the shop was really nice and schooled me on a lot of things related to locs. It was a small group of about 3 women and their locs were so pretty. The owner showed us How to do some styles and gave us some tips. The conversation we had was very free-flowing, enlightening, and encouraging! We discussed natural hair in society, how our cultural embraces natural hair, natural hair in the work force. Along with some other topics. No matter where you were in your journey, it was great to get feedback from everyone and hear everyone's thoughts and concerns on how to educate and embrace your hair and natural self.  The meet-up cover more than just hair, but also embarked on how to be a better person as a whole. The owner had pictures of locs and something that I thought was cool was that one of the women had a 'LOC JOURNAL" I love that idea. I am def. going to start doing that. I am kind of doing that now with this blog but I like the idea of walking around with one. I got a start on my journal with some of the pictures that the showed us.  My goal is that by the end of 2012, I will learn how to do at least 2 hair styles on my own with my Sisterlocks. I learned one tonight. I really enjoyed myself and I am so glad I came. Having natural hair is such a blessing. I mean how many relaxed women do you see meet up and talk about about hair or topics like we discussed tonight. You meet so many people having natural hair. The owner touched on alot of good points throughout our meet up. Too much to type but I really enjoyed talking to everyone.
SN. The owner makes products at her shop.. I picked up a brown sugar scrub and a sea salt soak... Below I took a picture... But if anyone is in the St.Louis area I would Def. Tell you to check out her shop. It's called Twist... until next time...

OK I LIED

I know I stated on my last post that the next time that you guys would hear from me I would be Sisterlocked..Well I lied. Do not shoot me. I am almost at the finish line but I am not quite there yet.  So I got my tester locks removed. Before she took the testers out she looked at all 6 testers and she was very surprised that all of them held. Apparently testers come out or unravel. I remember looking onYouTube channels and seeing some people talk about theirs coming out. And the one that held the longest was a good one. I told her how I twisted them and braided them and took them out and she liked that all of them still look great. I guess that is good thing because I can pretty much do any kind of pattern.  maybe that is a good thing on slippage, maybe I will not have any or very few. I just want the pattern that is the quickest to do and also the pattern that will look the best on me. But considering the fact that none of them unraveled I guess they all will look good on me. But anyway,  she asked me did I want to come in on a Sunday and start getting my hair done..Heck yeah. I do. And then I will return on Monday morning at 6am. I am excited about that because I am a early bird so the earlier the better. I pray that if we start on Sunday we get a nice size section complete and then by Monday night I will be done. Corny as it sounds, then I can say I was sisterlocked on 123. lol. Oh I will be taking before and after pictures throughout the whole process... So you guys will see pictures of my fro before the install, pictures of each section by section, side views, back views, and front view.

Still got my testers in

Okay, so I still have my tester locks in... It has been about 2 weeks... I am going in tomorrow to get these removed. I am still schedule to get all of my sisterlocks installed on the 23rd of January... I prayer that it only takes one day(like 12-14 hours ) but we shall see. Side note, the reason why my hair looks kind of crinkly in these two pictures is because I braided the tester locks and after 2 days, I took the braids out. I got bored one day at work. Lol. I am still excited about getting them installed. I am still wondering what my hair will look like with all of them in my head.  A lot of people talk about parts showing when thy first get their sisterlocks installed. I wonder if I will have that problem? A lot of people say that my hair is really thick. I think my hair is thick, but I do not think it is super thick. My consultant said I will probably not have that problem but we shall see. I wonder how long it will take my whole head to lock? I have been wondering all kinds of things these past 2 weeks. But one thing is for certain unless something comes up, around this time next week I will be Sisterlocked! ;) Thanks for reading, and until next time people!!! Hopefully my next post will be pictures of my install!
