L.A.D. 2012

Hello Everyone!!! Please mark your calendars!!!

I'm so excited to announce that 2012 Loc Appreciation Day is on 6/23/2012 which is the last Saturday of the month. Loc Appreciation Day was created by Qochemist, a YouTuber with a vision. Her vision was to set aside one day out of the year for loc wearers and loc lovers worldwide to appreciate, celebrate, unite, love and share with one another. This vision was first celebrated on 6/25/2011 and it was so successful that we are doing it again.

2011 Loc Appreciation Day was such an exciting and unforgettable day!! Loc Appreciation Day collaboration videos were posted all over YouTube. People were uniting and meeting up in different locations. Also there were tons of giveaways and contests in celebration.

Come all, come everyone let's celebrate 2012 Loc Appreciation Day on 6/23/2012!!!!! This is a day where all loc wearers, loose naturals, and loc lovers can take the time to reflect and celebrate.

I will be celebrating this day prob. With other naturals... I will post a video on LAD as well. I was thinking about entering into some contests but i did not like any of the prices. Plus having sisterlocks I don't put anything on my hair, so I do not want to take away from someone who might really benefit from it... This day is really special for me bc 6/23/2012 I will be celebrity my 5th month sisterlocksversary lol...

Twisty for sisterlocks

So I am thinking maybe this time next year I will try this look... Heck maybe ill give it a try in a few months. My hair isn't this length and/or not the length that I would like it to be to give this look a try.... It's a simple look but i think its cute.

Update update...4 month update

So someone said to me the other day, everytime I see you you have a different hairstyle. How many hairstyles have you had since having sisterlocks.. I had to pause bc to be honest I really don't know... So i decided to go back and look at my blog and count them. I have had18 possible 19 different hairstyles... I say possible bc I did the bandtu knot out twice. So let's just say 18... That's pretty cool. My sisterlocks are developing just fine. I still use the sisterlocks shampoo. My hair stopped being itchy and dry about 2 months ago. My consultant washes my hair twice a month... She has to band the front but the back no longer has to be banded. So that is good. I stopped using the rosewater 3 months ago.it did not help my hair like it helped others. I am not really sure when my hair will Loc or even concerned with when it will. I am just enjoying my Sisterlocks and the versatility that they offer. I am still loving my Sisterlocks and I don't regret getting them. Since getting them I have been able go educate others on sisterlocks. So far I have not received any negative comments since I have had them. Thanks for reading. If you guys have any question please do not hesitate to ask! Also if you have any tips for me please post them. We are learning together and i love learning new things. Be blessed and thanks for reading! Below is A picture of my hair 12 days after my 4 month reti... I had a updo and it still looks great 12 days later!

What is AA obession with long hair?

I don't really get why AA women are obessed with having super long hair. It's interesting bc I hear so many women say "I became natural bc i want long and thick hair." And oftentimes they get upset when their natural hair doesn't grow or is not as full as they see someone else's hair. Everyone is not meant to have super long hair or even thick hair down their back. That's genetics. I find it interesting to see/ hear people obession with it... Maybe its because I have always had long thick hair. It's really nothing special about it. It's just hair. And coming from someone who has thick hair its more work and more maintenance. Now don't get it twisted I Love my hair. I always have. I never had an issue with my hair. No matter if it was relaxed, loose natural, and now SL. My hair has changed with my personality...short, long, braids, weaves, even wigs. I even went from twa to a huge Afro. I really didn't do much with color... My hair doesn't like color that much. I remember when i tried highlights my hair did not like It. After that if I wanted the look of color I would have it sewws in... But i really love the color black. Thank God that is my natural hair color..lol.

Maybe women who have never had long hair before go natural to achieve this look. I had women look at me really strange when i say i don't want long SL... They go why don't you want long hair/Sl. Now some may say that i started my sisterlocks long... I don't think that 7-8 inches is long. I think its long enough to do the styles I want. I am just at a point in my life that anything pass my shoulders is just too long for me. Plus I know me and I know my hair... Although sisterlocks are lightweight, mainly bc you don't have any product in them. I still don't want a lot of weight weighing on my head.. I am fine with my length now. It's just my hair has not dropped yet. So it shrinks up. Which is what happened when i had loose natural hair. So its no surprise.

At this point I am rambling. But help me understand. Someone who wants long natural hair or long sisterlocks what is your obbession/ reasons for wanting it?

Untitled, just a thought...

Ok so i was looking a picture on a natural hair blog. It was a picture of a boz permed that was .99cents. And the caption read "naturals are taking over they are just giving them away." But i mean at the same time box relaxers have always been under $9.. I have been natural for Over 3 years. I stopped putting chemicals in my hair 2 years prior to that. To me, being a loose natural is more expensive than relaxing ones hair. Now if your going to a licensed professional I kindof think the prices are pretty neck and neck. I love my loose natural hair and i love my sisterlocks. But I kindof think being natural is a fade that a lot of people are trying bc it is "in" I would love to see all these ppl that are natural now, still natural 10 years down the line. I would also love people that are natural totally embrace it. By that I mean not hiding behind weaves and braids. To me being natural means you are not afraid for the world to see the real you and for you to be comfortable in the Skin your in. It's not to say they are a bad person its just I think a lot ppl cannot do that. I have had ppl tell me that too. I think its all about maintain too. I have seen ppl with chemicals in their hair and its really healthy. I have also seen ppl with natural hair and their hair is competely damage and unhealthy.. natural just means free of chemicals... That would include colors... So if u have a color technically ur not natural because that is not the natural color that grows from their hair. I am not judging I am just making a statement to have yall look at it in a different way.. Now that i have sisterlocks... That def takes away from not having to buy products to put in my hair and my drying time is cut down significantly. But the price I pay for my retis is what I paid when I had relaxers &/or loose natural hair. When i was a loose natural I went to stylist twice a month. I have always had a professional maintain my hair. I still don't regret my decision. I will always go to a professional for the rest of my life. But that's my choice. I am too lazy and have too much hair to do it myself.lol.I will also note that I think AA magazines are comfortable with natural hair. Society has embraced our natural hair a long time ago, it just took us(AA) a while to embrace it. I remember in fashion magazine ALek I cannot think of her last name. She was a supermodel. She had natural hair and grace Jones they rocked tea in the 80s and 90s and the majority loved them for it. I am happy that we are doing it now.... Sorry I did my college senior thesis on natural hair 2 years ago. And everytime I see these picturea I go into research mold...
